Elton John is assuring the world he's "feeling very well" as he continues to convalesce from a "potentially deadly" bacterial infection he contracted during his South American tour earlier this year.
The disease forced John to cancel a scheduled Las Vegas residency and he made his first public appearance since then on Monday (May 22) at the Cannes Film Festival in France to present the winners of his Elton John: The Cut, YouTube competition.
Although Britain's The Sun said John was "a bit shaky on his feet," John also told fans who greeted his arrival that "I feel good," while his husband David Furnish told the Daily Mirror that John is "doing good. He’s made a great recovery. I've been looking after him. He's been a good patient."
John's next scheduled show is June 3 when he launches a European tour in Twickenham, England.
At Cannes, meanwhile, John honored budding filmmakers for their homemade music videos for song such as "Bennie and the Jets," "Rocket Man" and "Tiny Dancer." Longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin also attended the event.
