We knew last year's disasters were bad, but just how bad? The total cost is out for all of the national disasters in the U.S. last year and it's a record number. According to USA Today, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says Hurricanes Irma, Harvey & Maria, plus 13 other disasters, including the devastating wildfires, cost the U.S. more than $306 billion, which tops the previous record of $215 billion set back in 2005, the year of devastating hurricanes, including Katrina (which still ranks as the costliest hurricane on record.)
Normally, the annual cost of national disasters averages around $40 billion.
