Soon, you might simply be able to have your Driver's License on an app on your cell phone instead of the plastic version you now carry around in your wallet. That's according to Fox News that reports that there is a program in the testing phase in 4 states including Maryland, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho, as well as Washington, D.C.
In addition to showing all of the standard info, with the app version you'd be able to limit what you show, depending on the circumstances. For example, if you didn't want to reveal how old you are, but wanted to buy alcohol it would only indicate you are legally of age to buy it and show your photo.
At this point they say that you would still be able to choose to stay old school and use a traditional hard copy driver's license, but one expert predicts that the digital version will be available across the country within 5 years.
